Ebook and audiobook watermarking

Ebook and audiobook watermarking

Every copy you sell is signed with your buyer's data, so that a leaked copy can be traced back to the buyer. But it opens in any reading app or device.

How does ebook watermarking work?

LemonInk is a cloud service used to secure digital books from piracy. It applies a digital watermark to each purchased ebook making it unique and traceable.

  • After each purchase LemonInk will create watermarked versions of your ebooks and attach them to the user’s order allowing them to easily download their individual copies.
  • Each file is digitally marked both visibly (by adding the purchaser's email address to its content) and invisibly (by embedding a series of obfuscated markers into an ebook's code).
  • This technique discourages users from publishing the files on the internet and allows you to track down those who’ve published them nevertheless.

Opens anywhere, Kindle included

Watermarked files stay in their original, DRM-free format. Your customers can open them on any device, be it a Kindle, an iPad or just a regular PC, with no app to install and no passphrase to type.

Visible and invisible marks

Each copy carries the buyer's name or email address in a few visible places, which is enough to make most people think twice before sharing a file signed with their own name.

On top of that we embed a series of obfuscated markers into the file's code. They are invisible to the reader and let us identify the buyer even if the visible marks have been removed.

Find out who leaked a file

If you find a copy of your book somewhere on the internet, submit it to LemonInk and we'll tell you which customer it was sold to.

Marks that survive

The invisible markers are redundant and undetectable to virtually any user. They survive most format conversions, transfers between devices and even hand tampering like removing the visible parts of the watermark.

Your watermark, your words

You decide what the visible watermark says. Write your own template using the buyer's name, email or order number, set it for your whole account or per book, and for PDFs choose where on the page it goes.
